Wheatland Union High School District Names New SuperintendentTop of Page

May 12 2018 Wheatland, CA – Tony Lopez, Board President for the Wheatland Union High School District (WUHSD) announces that Nicole Newman has accepted a three-year contract with WUHSD effective July 1, 2018.

“The Board of Trustees unanimously agreed on the selection of Mrs. Newman who has an exceptional track record in public education and a strong commitment to student achievement.  I am happy to welcome such a dynamic educational leader to our District and our great community,” stated Mr. Lopez. The hiring of Mrs. Nicole Newman follows an executive search by the District that included inputs from all community stakeholder groups. The Board reviewed applications, supporting documentation, and conducted extensive interviews, background and reference checks during the hiring process.

When asked about her initial thoughts on being selected Mrs. Newman stated, “I am personally and professionally ready to move to the next level of educational leadership and would not  accept an opportunity to serve as superintendent unless I am able to be close to kids.  Students are a daily priority in my life.  Wheatland Union High School District meets that important criteria. I will give the students and staff, the school, and our communities, 100% of my dedication and effort.  It is truly an honor to be selected as the next leader of this district.”

Mrs. Nicole Newman currently serves as Principal for Pierce High School located in Arbuckle, California.  Prior to that she was the Principal for Orland High School in Orland, California.  Her resume includes service as a college instructor, Principal in a K-12 school, Vice Principal in a Middle School, and a Business and Marketing Teacher.  Mrs. Newman earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Marketing Education, and Masters Degrees in both School Administration and Instructional Technology from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She and her husband Dwayne reside in Colusa, California, and have three boys ages 21, 18, and 11.

A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENTTop of Page

After 39 years in education I will be retiring at the end of this academic year.  This decision has come after long discussions with my wife and family.  I have six grandchildren living in the central portion of the United States.   I have missed too many birthdays, special occasions, and life changing events. I hope to become a much greater part of their lives.

As I reflect back on my tenure at our high school, I can truly say that I have enjoyed working with each of the over 2000 students that have come through our doors.  I believe that the teachers and staff at this school are some of the best I’ve had the pleasure to work with.  The communities that make up our district are truly unique.  Each has a strong focus on providing the support necessary to ensure student success.

I have truly enjoyed serving as the Superintendent and Principal of the Wheatland Union High School District for the last 9 years.  I wish you all the best in years to come and know in my heart that we will always have something in common; being a Pirate and Honoring the Code!

Vic Ramos, Ed.D.

Superintendent and Principal
